Do you need to organize your sewing room?

If you are a typical quilter organizing the sewing room is not on the list of things to do. A new quilt is calling you to finish it. Additionally, that stash pile is ready to be cut. Organizing the sewing room is just not on your list.
Paper towel rolls collect quickly in the kitchen. For this reason, move them into the sewing room and give them a new purpose. Here are some of my uses for these cardboard rolls that would otherwise end up in the trash or recycling.
Binding Storage

When you cut binding, there is typically feet left over after sewing it onto the baby quilt. Storing these pieces for future use can be tricky. Many times, a quilter would just throw them into a container. Eventually. these strips become wrinkled. Additionally, remembering to use them become an impossible task.
The paper towel rolls become quite useful for storing and locating the binding strips in the future for the next handmade baby quilt. The quilter can wrap the excess binding around each. Also, since they are made of cardboard, writing on them or labeling can be done directly on the cardboard roll. Storing these rolls is also easy. They will fit into drawers for easy access. Likewise, dowel rods can be used as a holder for easy viewing for the next project.
Tool Container

The never ending organization of quilting and sewing accessories or tools is always a problem. Group several paper towel rolls together with either a hot glue gun or just simply a rubber band. In addition, these cardboard rolls can be cut into different heights. These make great storage for scissors, rotary cutters, bobbins or even smaller spools of thread.
Using a permanent marker to write on each one will help to identify the items.
Cutting each off the tube sideways becomes a storage for spools of thread. These will line up easily in a drawer for viewing colors for your next project or custom made crib quilt.
Organizing your sewing room with paper towel rolls is a great way to keep it more organized. Paper towel rolls can be used for a variety of purposes, including storage, organization, and even decoration.
TIme to sew!
